Elle en rêvait, elle l’a fait ! La Normandie Gladys Verhulst (FDJ-Suez) a été la plus rapide du sprint massif qui a conclu la 1ère étape du Tour de Normandie 2023. La normande fait coup double au terme de cette étape tracée entre Argentan et Bagnoles de l’Orne puisqu’elle enfile le maillot de leader du classement général.
Le peloton de 129 partantes de ce 1er Tour de Normandie cycliste féminin était motivé pour briller au cours de cette étape de 130 km tracée à travers le Département de l’Orne. La motivation était telle que les routes escarpées et accidentées ne seront pas décisives. En effet, même si les tentatives existent, aucun participante ne parviendra à faire la différence durablement. Les écarts des échappées ne seront jamais au-delà des 35 ». Les favorites verrouillent la course tant leur envie de briller est grande. La chasse aux bonifications fait rage lors des sprints intermédiaires : le premier est remporté par Gladys Verhulst (FDJ-Suez) et le second par la championne de France, Audrey-Cordon Ragot (ZAAF CCYLING TEAM).
Lija LAIZANE (LABORAL KUTXA – FUNDACION EUSKADI) ou encore MOLENAAR Laura (PARKHOTEL VALKENBURG) verront leur tentative réduite à néant, la première sur réaction du peloton, la seconde sur ennui mécanique alors qu’elle comptait 35″ à 15 km de l’arrivée.
A Bagnoles de l’Orne, c’est donc un peloton groupé qui se présente ! Le sprint massif est lancé et le maillot FDJ-Suez surgit en tête dans la courbe d’arrivée. Pour la joie du nombreux public présent, c’est la normande Gladys Verhulst qui l’emporte. Originaire de la région, celle qui n’avait pas caché son enthousiasme à l’annonce de la création de ce Tour de Normandie féminin réalise son rêve. Place désormais à la défense de son maillot rose de leader sur les deux autres étapes qui composent le Tour de Normandie 2023. Rendez-vous dès ce samedi entre La Haye et FLamanville.
